Chanda Dancy’s Emmy-Nominated Score for Lawmen: Bass Reeves Arrives on Netflix

*Lawmen: Bass Reeves*, featuring music by Emmy-nominated composer Chanda Dancy, is now streaming on Netflix as of June 1.

Originally released on Paramount+, the acclaimed Western limited series tells the story of Bass Reeves, one of the first Black deputy U.S. marshals west of the Mississippi. The series stars David Oyelowo as Reeves, alongside Lauren E. Banks and Donald Sutherland, and was created by Chad Feehan. Netflix describes the series as following Reeves after escaping slavery and becoming a legendary lawman who captured more than 3,000 outlaws in his lifetime.

Chanda Dancy received a 2024 Primetime Emmy nomination for *Lawmen: Bass Reeves* in the category of Outstanding Music Composition For A Limited Or Anthology Series, Movie Or Special (Original Dramatic Score) for “Part I.” Her sweeping, emotionally charged score helped define the sound of the series, bringing scale, tension, and humanity to the story of an iconic figure in American history.

*Lawmen: Bass Reeves* is available to stream now on Netflix.
