Jherek Bischoff

Jherek Bischoff is an American composer, songwriter, producer, music director, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles. His credits include music for film (Exhibiting Forgiveness; Small Town Universe; Organ Trail), symphony orchestra (So Fragile, So Blue; Jump!Star), theater (Sherlock Holmes; The Ocean at the End of the Lane; Andersen’s Stories), over a dozen albums as a solo artist or band member (The Ocean at the End of the Lane (Official Soundtrack); Cistern; Composed), and over sixty albums as a writer, musician, arranger, producer or engineer (David Byrne, Andra Day, Foster The People).

Hailed a “polymath” (The New York Times), a “visionary” (SPIN) and a “formidable force in orchestral music” (NPR), Bischoff’s singular voice is informed by his roots in alt-rock and experimental bands and his love of classic Hollywood movie soundtracks. Utilizing orchestral, electronic, and rock instrumentation, he blends contemporary classical, ambient and experimental rock music in innovative ways: from his orchestral albums Cistern and Composed, his 80s-inspired, synth-heavy theater score for The Ocean at the End of the Lane, to his intimate piano-based film score for Exhibiting Forgiveness.

Bischoff’s prolific career includes collaborations with William Shatner, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Kronos Quartet; commissions by Lincoln Center, The Royal Conservatory and St Ann’s Warehouse; performances by the National Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony; and performances at Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall and in Times Square.
